The Beauty Revolution Festival 2019

By Katekani Shivambu

On Sunday the 7th April 2019, I attended the first ever beauty festival in SA. The beauty revolution festival was a day packed with all things beauty with the intent to change the beauty narrative. The Beauty Revolution is about celebrating your individual beauty, inspired by breaking down beauty standards and reshaping them. The program catered to all things Beauty from beauty panels, hair and makeup demo, the hottest brands, latest trends and Meet & greets of the best in the beauty business.

The two-day event featured the best in the industry with a performance by Nadia Nakai, and appearances by Pearl Thusi, Thembi Seete, Michelle Mosalakaem and many more. Beauty brands such as Loreal Paris, Urban Decay and Maybelline, showcased their finest in makeup with their stalls. The fashion brand Foschini showcased its All Women makeup brand by allowing women to experience the makeup through a face beat makeover by the best makeup artists in the business.

The event was a spectacle to behold as it was an opportunity to educate upcoming makeup artists and to network the business of beauty throughout South Africa, people who attended the event attested to being there for the discounted makeup and the amazing teachings on makeup and to get to know the people in the beauty business.

This was a great experience for me as I got to learn that being yourself and allowing yourself to find the beauty within is what makes us beautiful.

With social media constantly defining the narrative of beauty, we tend to forget our essence of being beautiful without apologising, because the reign of social media has been a constant reminder of our flaws whereas the beauty fest merely served as a reminder to people that beauty is all up to us, we are the storytellers of what beauty means and is to you.
