By Phumzile Mavimbela

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture takes this opportunity to inform the public and the creative sector about the Third Phase COVID-19 relief payments effected to date.

The Department opened the sectoral application for Third Phase relief in mid – February and allowed the process of submitting applications to run for maximum period of two weeks. Upon the expiry of the application process, the Department was able to receive both INDIVIDUAL applications and ORGANISATION applications through online process and email.

To date +5,500 verified applications were received from Individuals (as opposed to organisations) and have been adjudicated while approximately a third of these applications were referred as some lacked credible documentation.
Two thirds of the adjudicated applications were then approved however, there is still some remaining emailed applications which were received before the cut-off date and are still being captured and the final figure of applications received might increase.
The Department then had to assign additional personnel with the objective of expediting or putting the adjudication process on express.

Note that the adjudication of applications received from organisations will only commence once the individual applications adjudication process is finalised. In consideration of the above, the Department commenced on Thursday, 8th April 2021 through its entity Business and Arts South Africa Council (BASA) to effect daily batch payments. To date, the Department has paid a total of 1119 applications to the value of R11,190, 000,00.
