King is a 4-letter word!

It’s been a weekend of new developments and old habits in the sporting world as we navigated our play of the week and here are some contenders.

The Saudis are in the big league as Newcastle United has officially been taken over by new multi-billion-dollar owners, led by Amanda Stavely and Mehrdad Ghodoussi. The team is rumored to be ready to spend hard and on the top of their shopping list are Jose Mourhino or Antoni Conte as Manager to replace Steve Bruce and top players like Kylian Mbappe from PSG and Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd.

Speaking of which, the red devils suffered an embarrassing loss to Jamie Vardy’s Leicester City as the pressure and spotlight falls on Manager Ole Solsjaer. The team seems to have their dream line up but a nightmare in the manager position with few people thinking it could be a matter of time before Zinedine Zidane is offered the post.

One team that doesn’t have issues though is Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who put 5 away to Watford wit a Firmino hattrick and German log leaders Bayern Munich who also put 5 past Bayer Leverkusen wit a Lewandowski brace affirming he’s a favourite for the Ballon d’Or.

Have you heard of the balloon d’Or though?

There’s a new sport that is inspired by a social media video that went viral. The balloon World Cup, which was at first a video on tik-tok before catching the attention of Spanish baller Gerard Pique has now become a full sport after it made it’s first world cup where two opponents try to keep a balloon afloat while moving around objects like an electric car! Francesco de la Cruz was the inaugural winner after beating German Jan Spiess 6-2.

And now for this week’s #PlayOftheWeek Naturena takes the cake, literally. This weekend marked the birthday of one legendary man in South African club football, K.I.N.G. Kaizer Chincha Motaung celebrated his 77th birthday and the team made sure he got plenty to toast to. Keagan Dolly gave a man of the match performance as he netted twice and provided an assist for Khama Billiat while striker Lazarus Kambole put the last nail on the Chippa United coffin to put more pressure on former Kaizer Chiefs manager Gavin Hunt’s charges.

Amakhosi are hoping this signals their return to winning ways with their manager Stuart Baxter especially wit their star defense of Ngcobo, Blom and Austin Dube fully fit and starting as regulars.

Congratulations to the Glamour Boys and happy birthday 77th to Kaizer Motaung, who said you can’t have your cake and (b)eat it?! Let’s hope his celebration doesn’t mean Coach Gavin might be hunting for a job soon.
