Portfolio Committee on Transport to hold Public Hearings on Railway Safety Bill in Mpumalanga

By Parliamentary Press

The Portfolio Committee on Transport will from friday visit Mpumalanga to conduct public hearings on the Railway Safety Bill.

The Bill aims to amend the National Railway Safety Regulator Act 16 of 2002 by facilitating an improvement in general safety within the railway environment, and ensure that rail becomes an attractive mode of transport and contributes towards economic growth.

It also seeks to promote the harmonisation of South Africa’s railway safety regime with the objectives and requirements for safe railway operations in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region.

The committee invites all interested citizens and organisations to attend the public hearings and comment on the Railway Safety Bill
