Africa’s Premier Film Festival

By Joburg Film Festival

The Joburg Film Festival (JFF) is strategically positioned to become Africa’s Premier Film Festival through the curation and showcasing of African and International films whilst providing youth as well as aspirant and established filmmakers and industry professionals with various opportunities for development, training, skills transfer and networking.

Entering its sixth year, the annual film festival which is presented by MultiChoice has come into its own, establishing itself as an independent platform that not only tells our stories but showcases and rewards excellence in film.

As South Africa celebrates 30 years of democracy, 2024 will be staged under the theme of inspiring storytellers and simultaneously celebrating the legends of the last 30 years behind and in front of the camera lenses.

The festival stands for innovation, excellence, and purposeful creativity and also seeks to grow and contribute to cultural tourism not only for the city of Joburg and the Gauteng province but for South Africa as a whole.

Joburg Film Festival was born out of the desire to create an exciting and independent platform that not only tells Africa’s stories, but curates, showcases, celebrates and rewards local and international excellence in film.

Set to feature some of the finest films from countries across the globe on display, the 6th installment of the Joburg Film Festival will run from Tuesday 27 February to Sunday 3 March 2024.

The festival is programmed around four key pillars of which the films form the foundation and in addition to the screening of over 60 curated films, which include African and world premieres, the Joburg Film Festival also incorporates a dynamic range of audience and industry initiatives including:

1.The Film Programme

2.Youth and Audience Development Programme

3.The Film Society

4.JBX Content Market

Alongside the film festival and its related programmes and activities, is the Joburg Exchange (JBX) – a fresh and new Industry market that focuses on the business of film and television.

Engineered to meet the ever-changing needs of the industry, this 3-day market brings together media and entertainment companies, producers, buyers, and distributors of content under one roof for meaningful contact, connections, networking, dealmaking and knowledge-transfer.
