BREAKING NEWS: The Presidency confirms David Mabuza’s resignation as the Member of Parliament

With weeks of uncertainty regarding David Mabuza’s fate, the Presidency has confirmed today that Mabuza has announced his resignation as a member of Parliament.

Following his request to the President to allow him to step aside as Deputy President of South Africa, David Mabuza has resigned as a member of Parliament (MP)

In a statement, the Presidency confirmed that it had received this information adding that on behalf of the government and people of South Africa, President Ramaphosa has extended gratitude and appreciation to Mabuza for his exceptional service to the country over the last five years.

“The Deputy President has undertaken the responsibilities of his office with dedication. I am grateful for the support he has provided to me throughout his term and for the leadership he has provided to the work of government,”- President Ramaphosa

With the recent swearing in of five MPs, the clock is ticking for the President to announce his new cabinet.
