According to the Rules of the National Assembly,“ Questions to Deputy President” must be scheduled once a month during session time and must be limited to six questions per question day - limited to a total time of three hours, including supplementary questions. 

Questions directed at the Deputy President must be submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly at least 16 calendar days before the question day on which they are to be answered – for the Speaker’s approval as complying with the rules and guidelines of the Rules Committee of the Assembly. 

Section 92(2) of the Constitution stipulates that Cabinet Members are accountable collectively and individually to Parliament for the exercise of powers and performance of their functions. 

Parliament uses a range of instruments to hold the Executive accountable, which include putting questions to the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa.
