10 Men Sundowns beat Sekhukhune United

Halftime team talk by coach Rhulani Mokwena was the difference as Mamelodi Sundowns won 2-0 against Sekhukhune United in their DSTV Premiership clash at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

With the teams going to halftime deadlocked, Sundowns came back in the second half with a different approach as Peter Shalulile scored as early as the 50 minute after a beautiful assist from Gaston Sirino.

Shalulile's goal means that the Namibian international is now the DSTV Premiership top goalscorer with nine goals.

The goal looked to have opened the match as Sekhukhune also started to apply pressure on the hosts sending numbers forward and creating more clearer chances.

Chibuike Ohizu thought he had equalized for Brandon Truter's men however his goal was ruled out for offside.

Marcelo Allende, Bongani Zungu, Cassius Mailula and Suprise Ralani came in the second to make sure that they consolidate matters in the middle of the park while also adding more power in front for the champions.

Substitute Pogiso Mahlangu came on for Sekhukhune United and immediately made an impact, he though he had also scored the equalizer but just like Ohizu, his goal was deemed to have been an offside goal.

Marcelo Allende was cautioned with a red card after a nasty challenge to Victor Letsoalo in the 76th minute.

The red card however didn't seem to shake Downs as Cassius Mailula scored his 6th goal of the season after meeting a Thapelo Morena cross in the penalty box and converted with ease.

The victory takes Sundowns to 52 points on the log standings leading second place Richards Bay by 22 points.
