The mother of late KwaZulu-Natal musician Mandla 'Mampintsha' Maphumulo has died at a Durban hospital after a short illness. Zamanguni Gumede was 66. Her death comes barely a month after the death of her son in hospital on Christmas Eve last year after suffering a minor stroke. 

The family confirms that Mampintsha's death took a toll on his mother. Mampintsha's sister, Pinki Gumede, confirmed their mother's death in an interview with TshisaLive. 

She stated that their mother called her shortly before her passing and left them at 11pm. Mampintsha and his mother had a rocky relationship but tried to iron out their differences in recent years. 

Mampintsha's sister now has the difficult task of burying their mother, weeks after saying goodbye to him.
