A glimpse into issues that affect Amakhosi negatively

Kaizer Chiefs' 1-0 loss at home to Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend was their 7th loss of the campaign after 17 games.

Ironically The Glamour Boys have also only won just seven games, so if you do the maths you would notice that Chiefs have lost just as the same points that they have been able to accumulate with just three more points added to those wins.

For a team of this magnitude to still be struggling with consistency even now is really hard to believe however former Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral delves a bit deeper into some of the key areas where Chiefs have lost it this season.

It is no doubt that Kaizer Chiefs' tactical approach with two central midfielders in front of the defensive line is not functioning in defensive transitions.

That is why in the second half of the Sundowns match coach Arthur Zwane was immediately forced to bring in Siyethemba Sithebe for the youngster Samkelo Zwane.

Having only scored 18 goals and conceded a mammoth 21 goals, the numbers actually do tell where the problem with Chiefs is, Edmilson Dove who is naturally a winger finds himself converted as a central defender.

The problem with that is that the 28 year old now finds himself often caught in unnecessary dragging position because he doesn't have the expected reflexes from a central defender's point of view, Ertugral believes.

Much to the disappointment of the fans who have now also went on to request for the introduction of Eric Mathoho, Mathoho who is yet to play in the league so far provides some aerial presence and experience in the box of Amakhosi however coach Zwane has other ideas.

Now that one of the biggest problems at Chiefs has been identified, Amakhosi will certainly need to work on their defensive structure if anything is to go by because the poor performance's unfortunately ends up impacting the players psychologically in a negative manner.

The 63 year old Turkish National Team Technical advisor also believes the current crop of players also doesn't seem to understand the culture that the likes of Doctor Khumalo, Thabo Mooki, Jabu Pule, Fani Madida, Collins Mbesuma, Simphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Tinashe Nengomasha just to name a few have built to put Kaizer Chiefs where it is now.

Unfortunately the golden generation of Chiefs could not passed on to the next generations and that might is a big challenge because the upcoming generation will not have anyone to hand over the baton to.

The hunger and the willingness is no longer at the same frequency as before hence Amakhosi will be completing an 8th straight season without a PSL title when the league concludes in May 2023.

The issue of Chiefs still "Building" is a matter of the past now because the team lacks consistency and stability while at the same time the momentum has equally been lost too.

Ertugal solely believes that Chiefs have to maximize the specialists workforce to ensure quality development and provide appropriate level of high performance.

Amakhosi host Royal AM on Sunday the 29th of January 2023 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, kick-off is at 17:30.
