The 2023 Women's T20 World Cup set to take place in South Africa is exactly 8 days away, the global's shortest form of the game will see 10 countries competing with one another in a bid to become World Champions on the 26th of February 2023.

With the 10 countries already split into two groups, group A will see Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh play against each other while England, India, Pakistan, West Indies and Ireland will do battle in group B.

With each team going to play the other four teams in their group, the top two teams from each group will automatically advance to the semi-finals on the 23rd and 24th of February while the final will play on the 26th of February 2023.

Defending champions, Australia are favourites heading into the tournament after defeating India by 85 runs in the last T20 World Cup that was held in Australia in 2020.

Looking to dominate both the longest and shortest format of the game, Australia who have just lost one of their past 17 T20 matches will look to captain Meghann Lanning as one of the players to be influential with both the bat and ball.

In a group described as the group of death Australia will start their World Cup journey against New Zealand on the 11th of February at Boland Park in Paarl.

Meanwhile India whose U/19 side has just won the inaugural Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup against the U/19 side of England, are also the favourites to win the senior T20 World Cup.

The side from Asia will also hope that the addition of U/19 captain Shafali Verma and wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh will boost the team and inspire the other players to ride the wave of their recent success.

Host nation South Africa has been backed by former Proteas bowler Makhaya Ntini to clinch the title, Ntini believes that it is truly a special time for South Africa and the whole cricket fraternity especially women's cricket in the country.

"I don't think there can be favourites in a T20 World Cup, in T20 cricket all it takes is one moment of individual brilliance to turn the course of a match, I think it will be a very competitive and exciting World Cup," Ntini said.

South Africa who have just named their 15 women squad to represent the country will look to their captain Suné Luus, Shabnin Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka to lead the attack in a bid to qualify for the semifinals and potentially go through to the final.

Luus who will lead the side has mentioned that the team is ready and raring to go, "the preparations have been very good we played our league games in the Tri-Series against India and West Indies and that went well. We have a very well balanced team that has experienced players and youngsters too so I am confident we will do well," Luus said.

The Momentum Proteas will start the tournament against Sri Lanka on the 10th of February at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.

Other strong contenders for the title are England who have welcomed back captain Heather Knight from a hip injury while New Zealand, Pakistan and West Indies will look to redeem themselves and cause a couple of upsets along the way.

The Newlands Cricket Ground, St. George's Park Cricket Ground and Boland Park are the three venues that will be in use for the World Cup.
