Another case has been opened once again regarding the election of Dr Murunwa Makwarela. This time against two councillors in DoP. 

According to the party,  the two councillors from the DoP, attempted to bribe ActionSA councillors to vote for the ANC-led opposition candidate, Dr Murunwa Makwarela who was elected as Tshwane's Executive Mayor.

The party alleges that one of their councillors was offered R2 million at a public location to vote for Makwarela. 

Makwarela received 11 votes more than the DA's Cilliers Brink, who was a candidate of the DA-led coalition- with the highest amount of councillors in the Council.

"ActionSA strongly condemns any attempts to offer illegal inducements to circumvent the democratic work of council after Tshwane’s residents gave the multi-party government a majority in the city."- Michael Beaumont

ActionSA has since expressed its condemnation of this behaviour, adding that the party will not tolerate the selling of votes.

The party has since called on the South African Police Service (SAPS) must investigate this matter fully and mete out justice in an effort to restore confidence, law and order in the running of South Africa’s capital.

Meanwhile, the Tshwane Council is set to host a special Council sitting tomorrow to elect a new Executive Mayor.
