Al Ahly Dominant Against Auckland City

By Neo Poho

African giants Al Ahly have progressed to the next round of the FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Auckland City 3-0 last night at Grand Stade de Tanger Stadium in Morocco.

Al Ahly who are unbeaten in 15 Egyptian Premier League matches broke the deadlock on the brink of halftime as Hussein El Shahat scored a scorcher of a goal outside the 18 yard box to set the crowd into a frenzy going to halftime.

Soon after the resart, Mohamed Sherif scored Al Ahly's second goal of the match after Auckland City gave the ball cheaply in the middle of the park only for Al Ahly to pounce on the opportunity and punish them in 56th minute.

With Auckland City nowhere to be found, the second half belonged to Al Ahly as they continued to press forward in a bid to get the third goal and seal their spot in the next round.

Bafana Bafana International Percy Tau was then brought on as a substitute for Al Ahly and the 28 year old former Brighton and Hove Albion forward sealed the victory for the Red Devils scoring in the 86th minute after a well worked build up leading to the goal.

Auckland City were dealt with a huge blow when Adam Mitchell was sent off in the 90th minute but it proved to no effect as the damage was already done.

On Saturday we will see Wydad Casablanca face Al Hilal in the second round while Seattle Sounders are yet to know who will be their opponents in the second round on Saturday.
