Kaizer Chiefs have promoted 20 year old goalkeeper Bontle Molefe to the senior team as a fourth choice goalkeeper.

Molefe who is a product of the Kaizer Chiefs development structures joins the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Brandon Peterson and Bruce Bvuma in the senior team looking to gain the much needed experience that will elevate him to potentially being the next Kaizer Chiefs number one goalkeeper.

The 20 year old who was entering the last few months of his contract with Chiefs has signed a three year deal with Amakhosi that have been very consistent with having quality goalkeepers.

Molefe's addition to the senior team comes at the right time when Khune's retirement being very much imminent at this stage of his career.

The 36 year old Ventersdorp born has seen coach Arthur Zwane drop him to the bench in Amakhosi's last 5 matches and with Peterson managing to keep another clean sheet over the weekend against Pirates, Khune might just be out for the longest time this season.

Molefe who is yet to make an official appearance for Chiefs so far is already being likened to Khune as Amakhosi's next number one goalkeeper.

With 9 more DSTV Premiership matches to go for Chiefs including the Nedbank Cup last 16, it would be interesting to see if coach Arthur Zwane will give Molefe a run or not however, even if the youngster doesn't get the opportunity now, he is expected to be get some game time next season.

Chiefs will next face Richards Bay FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday the 4th of March in a DSTV Premiership encounter before hosting Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup last 16 at the FNB Stadium on the 12th of March 2023.
