Another tanker explosion: this time on the N1 near William Nicol

Emergency services are attending to the N1 from Malibongwe Drive. This following a tank explosion that happened in the area. Motorists have since been advised to seek alternative routes as clean-up operations are still underway.

It has been under two months since the notorious Boksburg explosion occurred and another tank explosion has been recorded today.

This comes as a collision occurred involving the tanker carrying an unknown substance on the N1 north near William Nicol Drive.

"On arrival, the tanker, carrying an unconfirmed substance, had exploded and was engulfed in flames."- Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the explosion took place just before midday today adding that upon arrival on the scene, the tanker was  engulfed in flames. Van Reenen has since expressed that one person has since been treated for moderate injuries and taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

Emergency service groups have since attended to the scene, but have urged motorists to avoid the area as the road remains closed for clean-up operations to continue.
