Banyana Banyana share the spoils with Slovenia

Banyana Banyana played out to a 1-1 draw against Slovenia in their second Turkish Women's Cup in Antalya, Turkey on Tuesday afternoon.

Slovenia scored first at the Emirhan Sport Complex when Adrijana Mori put the European side in the lead in the 13th minute of the match after dominating much of the opening 10 minutes.

Banyana Banyana then tried to come back in the encounter with a number of goal scoring chances going amiss for the South African side.

The two sides then went to halftime with Slovenia still leading 1-0 in the Turkish Women's Cup much to the frustration of Desiree Ellis' and her charges.

Ellis' halftime talk seemed to have spurred the ladies on as Banyana came back into the second half like a house on fire throwing everything at Slovenia in a bid to restore parity.

The pressure from Banyana finally paid off as Hildah Magaia equalized in the 76th minute to bring Banyana Banyana on level terms and set an entertaining last 10 minutes in the encounter.

Ellis will be happy with the test that was provided by Slovenia as the tough Europeans made their opponents work very hard for a share of the spoils.

With Jermaine Seoposenwe, Bambamani Mbane, Gabriela Salgado and Linda Motlhalo starting on the bench, the likes of Noko Matlou, Melinda Kgadiete, Asande Hadebe and Kholosa Biyana got a chance to start the match as Ellis is still trying different combinations within the squad as Banyana are using the tournament to prepare for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The draw means Banyana Banyana now have 4 points at the Turkish Women's Cup having won their opening match 3-0 against Uzbekistan last week Saturday.
