City of Ekurhuleni attains a clean audit and halts meeting once again

The City of Ekurhuleni has received a clean audit as announced by auditors in the City Council Meeting. With the recent resignation of Kheta Shandu as Council Chief Whip, the council had more pressing matters to address.

The City seems to have all finances in order, although not the same can be said about its Council.

With a delay in the start of the Meeting, allegedly as a result of the Council deliberating whether the new Chief Whip of the Council should be elected, the Council was able to elect Jogiziziwa Dlabithi as the Acting Whip of the Council.

This is following the announcement of Kheta Shandu’s resignation yesterday. Shandu resigned ahead of a planned motion of no-confidence that was set to be tabled against him today.

Today’s proceedings have seen the resumption of the previous meeting’s agenda as well as the numerous disruptions which have resulted in caucus breaks.

Despite the original plan for the council to sit for the mid-year budget and performance assessment report as well as a vote of no-confidence in the Speaker, proceedings have been halted once again.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
