The court battle between the Democratic Alliance and African National Congress has seen the DA edge one point forward as the court ordered the ANC to release all cadre deployment-related documents.

Following what has been weeks on end of court appearances between the ANC and DA over the ruling party’s Cadre Deployment Policy, it's one point for the DA and zero for the ANC.

This, as the Johannesburg High Court handed down a judgment ordering the ANC to release all cadre deployment information and documents dating from 1 January 2013, of which President Cyril Ramaphosa began chairing the ANC’s Cadre Deployment Committee.

According to the court, the ANC’s refusal to make records of cadre deployment public, was “unlawful and invalid”, adding that the party has 5 days to release these records.

“In a ground-breaking judgment handed down today by the Johannesburg High Court, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has won our long-running battle to expose complete records of the African National Congress (ANC) national cadre deployment committee’s role in the corruption, capture, and collapse of South Africa’s public sector”- Democratic Alliance

The DA has since expressed its satisfaction with the ruling adding that it dealt a fatal blow to the ANC’s argument that asserts that the party’s view that the wishes of the Cadre Deployment Committee are not always taken into account.

With the DA referring to the ruling as a “historic victory”, the ANC has since expressed that it would be appealing the decision of the Johannesburg High Court.
