DA and ActionSA express dissatisfaction for EFF National Shutdown

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are already facing opposition in the lead up to its National Shutdown that is set to take place next week. This is as the Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA have raised their concerns respectively.

The EFF's planned shutdown is already facing criticism, with the DA having filed papers against it in the North Gauteng High Court. This is a bid according to them for authorities to ensure that the shutdown is peaceful.

According to the party, it is acting on the calls and fear of the public who have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the shutdown, adding that the DA takes the threats expressed by the EFF, seriously.

Party leader, John Steenhuisen, has since expressed that the DA has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa as well as Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, to call on them to ensure that the public is aware of the country's readiness for the planned demonstration.

Meanwhile, ActionSA has echoed the DA's condemnation of the EFF's national shutdown, referring to it as "mass anarchy", adding that it would result in great losses for our economy.

With both ActionSA and the DA having expressed their concerns of the demonstration turning violent, ActionSA party leader, Herman Mashaba expressed that his party would lay criminal complaints against the leadership of the EFF if violence ensues.

Following these remarks by both parties, the EFF has since clapped back at the DA calling their decision to take the matter up to the High Court, as a publicity stunt, adding that the party had the right to protest as stipulated in the Constitution.

The EFF's National Shutdown is set to take place on 20 March 2023 to demand an end to the electricity crisis and the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
