The Joburg Post caught up with Morero after a break was granted to the Council after nominations were made.

Expressing his confidence in Thapelo Amad for the position of mayor, Morero expressed that the coalition between the ANC and Al Jama-ah has been in existence since the ANC lost Johannesburg in 2016.

Despite this, it doesn't look like the ANC plans to keep Thapelo Amad as the mayor forever if he wins today.

“The ANC has entered into an agreement with EFF that they will have an EFF mayor in Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg will have an ANC mayor”- Dada Morero

With the mention of an agreement between the EFF and the ANC, one questions whether  the party with only 3 seats, Al Jama-ah is aware of this agreement or is set to receive a rude awakening later. 

Meanwhile, voting has concluded at the Council Chamber, with a break being granted for votes to be counted.

With 267 members expected to have cast a vote, the race between the three nominees will see the winner announced as Executive mayor later in the day.
