Erasmus who has now joined the Buccaneers for his second spell from Mamelodi Sundowns, joined Pirates in 2013 until 2016 before attracting interest from french Ligue 1 side Rennes where he spent 2 years and only making 10 appearances in the process.

The former Feyenoord player has always been a fan favourite at Pirates with numerous Pirates followers expressing their delight when Erasmus joined the Buccaneers on deadline day.

Erasmus have revealed that the Pirates faithful have always been asking him if he would return back to the club when he was still in overseas.

"Before I came back home I was getting a lot of love from the people that support Pirates asking me to come back, well I didn't answer them because at that time I was still in France," Erasmus said.

Immediately after he came back to South Africa, the striker joined Cape Town City in 2019 before playing for Mamelodi Sundowns where he made 26 appearances and also won the league title with the team.

With injuries and lack of game time becoming Erasmus' 'daily bread' at the Pretoria based side, the Port Elizabeth born finally got reunited with the team that he calls home.

"Coming back at Pirates has brought a lot of people's wishes into fruition and the love I have been getting has been amazing, I am home and I feel home."

Upon his return, Erasmus has helped Pirates to clinch this season's MTN 8 title scoring a single goal against his former side Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the semifinals.

Pirates went on to defeat AmaZulu 1-0 in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and Erasmus believes he re-joined Pirates just at the right time.

"With my transfer from Sundowns to Pirates happening exactly on deadline day is a sign that timing is everything and it was at the right time for me to come back, I could have came earlier but I didn't and I could have also gone somewhere but I choose Pirates because they have always backed me and shown me real love, so I am glad I came at the right moment and being back has been amazing," Erasmus added.

Erasmus will be looking to help Pirates add more silverware this season with the Buccaneers still in the Nedbank Cup after defeating Venda Football Academy 2-1 last weekend where Erasmus was the recipient of the first goal.

Pirates will next face ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars in the last 8 but before that they host Erasmus' former employers SuperSport United on Saturday night at the Orlando Stadium.

Kick-off in that encounter is at 17:45.
