The Line-Up for UCF SPORTS CLUB JHB 2023 has arrived!

Riky Rick, born Rikhado Makhado, is a South African musician, rapper, and record producer who has become a household name in the South African music industry. 

He first rose to fame in 2011 with the release of his debut album "Family Values" and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most influential and respected figures in the South African music scene.

One of Riky Rick's most notable achievements is the establishment of Cotton Fest, a music festival that he started in 2019. The festival was created to showcase new and upcoming talent in the South African music industry, and it has since become one of the most popular and respected music festivals in the country.

The annual festival was put on hold in 2021, due to Covid-19 restrictions, returning this year. Pre-Covid, the festival will see more than 80 local hip-hop and amapiano artists take the stage. 

Cotton Fest head of communications Melanie Ramjee says it was Riky Rick’s vision to expand it to other parts of the country.

“Cotton Fest is bigger than just being a music festival. It is a culture and a movement. After Riky’s passing in February, all the Cotton Fest plans were put on hold for a bit. Later, in March, we regrouped and focused on going ahead with the festival in Joburg. But it can’t just be about Johannesburg, we need to grow Riky’s legacy,” says Ramjee.

The first Cotton Fest was held in 2019, and it featured a lineup of some of the most exciting new artists in the South African music scene. The festival was a huge success, and it set the tone for the future of the event.


Over the years, Cotton Fest has continued to grow in popularity, with each year's festival featuring an even more impressive lineup of artists. In 2019, Cotton Fest brought together some of the biggest names in the South African music industry, including Riky Rick himself, Nasty C, and Cassper Nyovest.

All set for Saturday 04th February 2023, Cotton Fest is back for the 4th edition in Johannesburg, returning to its home at the Old Station in Newtown.

This year, the festival promises to be an even bigger event than ever before. The lineup features some of the most exciting new artists in the South African music scene, as well as established acts like Uncle Waffles, Cassper Nyovest and Young Stunna.


The event will also feature the popular vendors and other lifestyle elements including The Tuckshop – Retail Fashion Store, Unconventional Sports Area – Live Skateboard Competition, University Cafeteria – Food Court, Customisation Station, Half-court Basketball Court and the Live Art Installation.

Riky Rick's life and career serve as an inspiration to young people all over Africa. He has shown that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. He has also shown that it is possible to be successful in multiple industries, and that one should never be afraid to pursue their passions.
