Kwinika and Saile to miss Nedbank Cup last 16

Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt with a major blow ahead of their Nedbank Cup last 16 clash with Casric Stars on Sunday evening at the FNB Stadium.

Regular centre back Zitha Kwinika has joined the long injury list of Chiefs' players that are currently out due to injury, Kwinika picked up an injury during Chiefs' Saturday’s DSTV Premiership clash against Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium playing as a right-back.

Kwinika's injury is a blow for Amakhosi whose injury list keeps on expanding, already another centre-back Erick Mathoho is also injured and that could force head coach Arthur Zwane to turn to Austin Dube or Njabulo Ngcobo against Casric Stars on Sunday.

Meanwhile right back Reeve Frosler is still sidelined while Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Khama Billiat and Ashley Du Preez are also out injured for the Nedbank Cup tie.

The Glamour Boys will also be missing new signee Christian Saile after he picked up his fourth yellow card of the season resulting into an immediate suspension, the striker was booked for simulation as he dived in the penalty box of Richards Bay during the 1-0 victory over the past weekend.

Amid the suspension of Saile, Zwane said "Christian won't be available due to suspension, we are struggling to keep a consistent line-up in terms of the first 11 so that we can build on it, we have been struggling to get that one right."

With the Nedbank Cup being the only remaining realistic opportunity for Chiefs to end the season with a piece of silverware, the injury situation in their camp poses a big threat to those ambitions of ending an eight-year trophy drought.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium on Sunday evening is 18:00
