Legends Corner with Peter Khoabane

On this week's feature of the Legend's Corner we have former Vaal Professionals, Bush Bucks and SuperSport United midfielder Peter Khoabane.

Khoabane who was well known for his ability to make tackles especially at crucial times to the opposition players started his football career at the age of 25 years with Vaal Professionals before playing for Bush Bucks.

The lanky midfielder then joined SuperSport United after rather a nasty departure at Bush Bucks, during his playing days at SuperSport United Khoabane was playing with the likes of Daine Klate, Japie Motale and Teko Modise just to name a few.

Under the guidance of coach Pitso Mosimane at SuperSport United Khoabane won numerous domestic trophies including the Absa Cup and the SAA Super 8 Cup.

Khoabane who describes his playing days at SuperSport United as one the best experiences he has had in his football journey, managed to get a Bafana Bafana call-up and represented his national side in 2002 at the Cosafa Cup.

Nicknamed "Fire", Khoabane describes the name as a true reflection of what he was in the middle of the park especially when he was about to make tackles to the opposition team.

The Sharpeville born player who was very close to John Moeti at SuperSport United then decided to hang his boots in 2007 after a relatively good footballing career.

With a lot of players venturing into different career fields after retirement whether it is sport related or not, others just sit back without any plan on how to make ends meet.

Now lets look at what Khoabane has been up to and where has he been since retiring from professional football. It is pleasing to know that the 51 year old Legend now has an NPO and is also a member of various organizations.

Peter Khoabane Foundation

The Peter Khoabane Foundation is an NPO that was founded by Peter Khoabane in the height of Covid-19, the NPO's objective is to provide food parcels and other essential necessities to households in the Vaal-Triangle.

In 2020 the NPO managed to provide food parcels and 12 wheelchairs to 30 families mostly residing in Sebokeng.

Vaal Football Legends

Along with the NPO, Khoabane is also a member of the Vaal Football Legends doing the same work as his foundation is doing.

Apart from giving back to the community, Vaal Football Legends also organizes football games in the townships for various age groups of boys and girls.

South African Players Union.

Khoabane also served as a member of the South African Players Union from 2011 until 2016 where he was an integral part of the Union especially advocating for the rights of the players.

Graduate of the ETA College

In 2020, Khoabane decided to go back to school and complete a course in school club and leisure management at the Exercise Teachers Academy College in Pretoria, SuperSport Park.

Sedibeng Masters

Having served in the Sedibeng Masters for seven years as the public relations officer, Khoabane will be contesting for the Presidency position in the 2023 elections of the Sedibeng Masters.

The 51 year-old who is also an advocate for youngsters being educated has mentioned that a football career is not a lifetime investment therefore the young and upcoming youngsters should not neglect education trying to persue football.

"My advice to the young footballers is that they should get educated while playing football because life after football is not easy, a player would rather retire having a qualification or a national senior certificate than to retire having nothing," Khoabane said.
