Mamelodi Sundowns humble Coton Sport at home

Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Coton Sport 3-1 in their second group B CAF Champions League encounter at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Cameroon on Friday night.

Sundowns started like a house on fire as youngster Cassius Mailula managed to put the ball in the back of the net in the 10th minute for his side's first goal of the match after capitalizing on a back pass gone wrong from Coton Sport.

Mailula was at it again in the 12th minute however, this time he provided the assist to Thapelo Morena who easily guided the ball into the net of Coton Sport for Sundowns' second goal much to the delight of Sundowns' great Trott Moloto watching on from the stands at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium.

Coton Sport who were playing their first group B match of the Champions League were really in trouble as Sundowns seemed to be unstoppable going in front.

After those two goals the match eased the tempo a bit with Coton Sport now regaining their confidence and starting to create some chances too.

It was only a matter of time before Coton Sport would pull one back and that proved to be the case as Patient Wassou scored a well worked goal in the 30th minute beating Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams at the far post to set the crowd into a huge uproar.

Just as Coton Sport thought they had halved the deficit to 1 goal heading into halftime, Sundowns ended the first half the same way they began it with Mailula scoring his second of the night and third in the CAF Champions League so far.

Aubrey Modiba's well timed pass found Mailula right at the edge of the box and with only the goalkeeper to beat, Mailula effortlessly rolled the ball in the back of the net in the 43rd minute.

The two sides then went to halftime with Sundowns leading 3-1 however, the second half didn't live up to its expectations as Sundowns only consolidated matters until the 90th minute.

The victory means that Sundowns have now won both of their group B matches and will next face African giants Al Ahly on the 25th of February at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo.

Meanwhile Al Ahly who were away last week due to FIFA Club World Cup duties, will open their group B CAF Champions League clash with Al-Hilal on Saturday at the Al-Hilal Stadium.
