Proteas Chase 347 for Victory

Captain Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan both scored centuries as England posted a mammoth 346/7 in their 50 overs in the 3rd and final ODI against the Proteas on Wednesday afternoon at the Diamond Oval in Kimberly.

With the series already lost, England came into the encounter knowing that nothing but a victory would be enough to restore some pride against a dominant South African side.

A quick fire treble of wickets from Lungi Ngidi put the hosts in front as England were 14/3 by the 6th over.

Those wickets then brought Buttler and Malan to the crease as the pair looked to resurrect England's innings and avoid another disappointing batting performance.

Indeed that was the case as both Malan and Buttler had a 4th wicket partnership of over 200 runs much to the frustration of the Proteas' bowlers.

Buttler was England's top scorer going out for 131 runs while Malan hit 118 of just 114 balls, by the time both of them were bowled out the damage had already been done as England were on 315/6.

Moeen Ali hit a quick 41 runs while the tail end order of Sam Curran, Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid scored less than 20 runs each, Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers for the Proteas with 4/62 while Marco Jansen had 2 wickets for 53 runs.

The Proteas have started their run chase with Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks at the crease, chasing 347 the Proteas are currently on 27/0 after 5 overs.
