Proteas lose 3rd ODI in Kimberley But Claim the Series

By Neo Poho

England were delighted to welcome back Jofra Archer back in the team as he claimed 6 wickets for 40 runs in 9.1 overs to help England defeat the Proteas by 59 runs in the 3rd and final ODI at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Wednesday night.

Chasing 347 for victory, the Proteas were really sloppy in their reply losing captain Temba Bavuma very early with the scoreboard on 49/1.

Rassie van der Dussen soon followed his captain becoming the first victim to fall of the bowling of Archer with the Proteas on 62/2 after 12 overs.

Reeza Hendricks then tried to find some momentum going all the way to score a half century but unfortunately was bowled out for 52 runs courtesy of Adil Rashid.

With the England bowling attack too strong for the Proteas,  Aiden Markram, David Miller and Marco Jansen fell cheaply at regular intervals as England tightened their grip in a bid to secure the victory.

That brought Heinrich Klaasen and Wayne Parnell to the crease and the pair started the fight back for South Africa, dismantling the England bowlers everywhere, much to the excitement of the fans.

Klaasen went on to score a half century in quick succession while rotating the strike with Parnell, just when it seemed like the match would go down to the wire Archer was brought back into the attack.

The 27-year old then claimed the all important wicket of Klaasen on 80 runs from 62 balls, the departure of Klaasen opened the floodgates as Magala, Parnell and Shamsi were all swept away by Archer and Rashid.

England's captain Jos Buttler was named the man of the match and the man of the series while Proteas captain Temba Bavuma was more than happy to receive the winning team's trophy.

The Proteas will next welcome the West Indies for a 2 match test series from the 28th of February until the 12th of March 2023 before heading into a 3 match ODI series and concluding with the shortest form of the game which is the T20 series starting on the 25th of March 2023.
