#SAElections2019: Ramaphosa, Maimane and Malema: What They Had To Say After Casting Their votes

By Joburg Post

The leaders of South Africa’s three major political parties have all got their votes done and dusted on for the Elections 2019. Cyril Ramaphosa, Mmusi Maimane and Julius Malema were all greeted with bustling crowds at their respective voting stations, as they lead the way for the electorate.

Mmusi Maimane

First up on Wednesday was Mmusi Maimane in Dobsonville, Soweto. The local boy was back in town at 7:00 sharp to cast his ballot where he grew up. He implored South African voters to make a change and ditch the “failing” ANC.

“People change. Governments change. This change is a normal and necessary part of any healthy democracy. And now, after 25 years of failed ANC government, it is our duty to bring the next wave of change to our country and to this province of Gauteng.”- Mmusi Maimane

Julius Malema

Then we saw Julius Malema rock-up to the ballot box in Seshego, Limpopo, accompanied by his wife Mantla. Juju was in fine spirits, and thanked EFF voters for

"doing everything humanly possibleI want to thank South Africans for coming out in their numbers and exercising their democratic rights. A lot of people died so we could do this: We have done everything possible to win this election. The process was smooth and I’m that the IEC seem to be organised.”- Julius Malema

Cyril Ramaphosa

Last but not least, Cyril Ramaphosa submitted his vote just before midday. Hitekani Primary School in Chiawelo, Soweto was the venue hosting the president, and he told his swathes of supporters that he could deliver the change this country needs. In repentant fashion, he also apologised for the ANC’s history of corruption:

“Our people need to believe us because over 25 years, the lives of our people have changed. But we have not yet filled the glass, it is half full, not half empty.”

“We now know why we didn’t fill it because we started deviating from the people’s mandate. Corruption and patronage got in the way… We know our mistakes and we are sorry about the mistakes we have made.” - Cyril Ramaphosa
