SAFA and PSL match official dies in a car accident

Tributes have started pouring in for the late Botshabelo born SAFA and PSL match official, Moeketsi Molelekoa.

According to SAFA Head of Referees Abdul Ebrahim, Molelekoa passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Friday evening, PSL also confirmed the news announcing that a moment of silence will be held during this weekend’s fixtures in tribute to Molelekoa.

"The league sends heartfelt condolences to the Molelekoa family, SAFA and the football fraternity at large, the PSL will observe a moment of silence in his honour ahead of this weekend's DSTV Premiership, DSTV Diski challenge and Motsepe Foundation Championship fixtures. May his soul repose peacefully," a statement read.

Max, as he was affectionately known to many made his debut in 2015 officiating matches in the Motsepe Foundation Championship before getting promoted to the DSTV Premiership.

He was part of the COSAFA Cup in Durban last year June and July, Max also featured in the CAF Champions League CAF Confederation Cup in 2022.

Media Personalities and friends alike have expressed their condolences on Twitter about Max's passing. "No man Moeketsi Molelekoa passed way, he recently posted that he built his mother a house.đź’”" SuperSport presenter Lindiwe Nxumalo tweeted.

Radio Presenter Mpho Maboi also tweeted "A true gentleman with an ever ready smile and the craziest sense of humour. Rest easy Max. Condolences to family, friends and the football community at large."

Details of his funeral service and other related activities will be conveyed in due course.
