Bafana Bafana international Njabulo Blom made a memorable debut for MLS side St Louis City as they defeated Austin FC 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Q2 Stadium on Sunday morning.

Blom who started the match on the bench came on as a substitute in the 17th minute for fellow teammate Indiana Vassilev and immediately made an impact as he helped his side score the first goal of the match courtesy of Tim Parker in the 24th minute.

As the match went on, there were chances few and far between for both sides until Austin FC's pressure finally paid off when Sebastián Driussi equalized for the home side on the brink of halftime to take the two sides to halftime locked at 1-1.

The two sides then came back from the break fired up and having a go at each other until Jon Gallagher doubled the score for Austin FC in the 72nd minute however, the goal seemed to have spurred St Louis City on as six minutes later the visitors restored parity through Jared Stroud.

In a tense finale to the match, Brazillian João Klauss de Mello scored the winning goal for Blom's side in the 86th minute as St Louis City completed the turnaround much to the delight of their head coach Bradley Carnell.

Blom who recently joined the Major League Soccer side this year from Kaizer Chiefs made an outstanding contribution in his debut by completing a 94% pass accuracy, creating 2 clear cut chances, winning 2 tackles that he committed himself on to and also made 4 interceptions in the encounter.

The 23 year old will hope that his brilliant debut has convinced Carnell and his technical team to consider him in the starting XI when St Louis City take on Charlotte FC in their next MLS encounter at the City Park Stadium on the 5th of March 2023.
