Thabang Monare is out injured while Ofori comes back

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori has resumed training while Thabang Monare is out injured.

Ofori who has been out of action since last year November has been discharged by the medical team and is back at full training.

Although the 29 year old is back from injury, Pirates have given 26 year old Sipho Chaine a chance to be between the posts and the former Chippa United goalkeeper has rose to the occasion producing some impressive saves in all competitions and securing two clean sheets in the process.

With Ofori returning, the Buccaneers will also be happy to have Olisa Ndah back at training although it is still not quite clear if he will be able to start on Saturday night when the Buccaneers welcome Venda Football Academy in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.

The bad news for Pirates ahead of the encounter though, is midfield maestro Thabang Monare has suffered a muscle strain which will see him being out of action for a month.

Monare who made his last appearance in the starting XI back in February is joined by Goodman Mosele who is also out for the weekend's match but will return to full training in the coming weeks alongside Bandile Shandu.

The long injury list is becoming a concern for coach Jose Riviero who has mentioned that it becomes a bit difficult to plan around a certain tactical approach when the team is flooded with injuries.

Riviero who guided Pirates to the MTN 8 triumph has stated his ambitions to also clinch the Nedbank Cup but he is wary of their next opponent, Venda Football Academy in the last 16.

"We have done our job in trying to know as much as possible about our opponents, we will take the game really seriously because we want to win and progress to the next round of the competition," Riviero said.

With Dondol Stars having proved to the DSTV Premiership teams that the lower league sides should not be taken for granted, Riviero furthermore said, "These games are complicated even though the team comes from the first division, it's a team of quality with experienced players and an experienced coach."

The Buccaneers reached the last 16 of the competition after defeating All Stars FC 2-0 last month while Venda Football Academy edged Blackcross 2-1 in the last 16 and Riviero has dismissed the mentality of the encounter is a 'David vs Goliath' clash.

"Even though we have to assume we are the favourites, you can find yourself a man down after 15 minutes and usually these things happen when you are not 100% focused which can happen when you face teams from a lower league," Riviero added.

Kick-off at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night is 20:00
