The first weekend of June will see Manchester United lock horns with Manchester City in the FA Cup final while Maritzburg United will continue their quest of retaining their DStv Premiership spot and Al Ahly welcome Wydad Casablanca in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final.

1. The FA Cup final is on the horizon as Manchester United take on Manchester City

The FA Cup Trophy

Manchester will once be divided on Saturday when Manchester United takes on Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Both sides have had a great season so far with United winning the Carabao Cup earlier on this year while City once again won the English Premier League title.

Having advanced to the final of the FA Cup after defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 7-6 on penalties, United will look to add the FA Cup to the League Cup they won in February – a domestic cup double they have never achieved before.

Another trophy is motivation enough for United, but stopping City's march towards a treble that could be sealed a week later in Istanbul against Inter Milan will fuel their hunger.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola's side are eyeing a first FA Cup triumph since 2019, having humbled Sheffield United 3-0 in the semi-finals to advance to the final, City head to the encounter on Saturday as favourites having won three of the last five encounters between the two sides.

Although the citizens have won a treble before under Guardiola, sweeping all the domestic honours in 2019 when they thrashed Watford 6-0 in the FA Cup final, repeating United's 1999 feat would rubber-stamp City as the best football team in the world.

Kick-off at Wembley Stadium on Saturday is 16:00 o'clock.

2. Maritzburg United travel to Cape Town for a clash with Cape Town Spurs

After beating Casric Stars 2-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night, Maritzburg United will travel to the Athlone Stadium for a clash with Cape Town Spurs in their second match of the PSL playoffs.

Facing a tough Cape Town side, Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia stated that they are expecting a tough match for a number of reasons.

"Firstly Spurs seem to be better organised than Stars and on top of that, they will be playing at home, plus the weather could be bad there this weekend.

Secondly, Spurs will be playing with some of our old players that will be seeking to impress with the likes of Clayton Daniels and Nazeer Allie in defence and Michael Morton in midfield," Kadodia said.

Kick-off on Saturday afternoon is at 15:00 o'clock.

3. Al Ahly and Wydad lock horns in the CAF Champions League final

Sunday will see the first leg of this year’s African Champions League final as Al Ahly host defending champions Wydad Casablanca in Cairo.

Al Ahly headed into the tie as the most successful club in the history of the competition with 10 wins.

In a repeat of last year's final, Al Ahly will look to fix their mistakes from the previous season and claim the much-needed victory in the first leg of the final.

On the contrast, just like they did in the semi-finals against Mamelodi Sundowns, Wydad Casablanca will aim to hold the Egyptian giants in the first leg and go all out to secure the tie in the second leg.

Wydad advanced to the final after edging Sundowns on the away goal rule with the sides playing out to a 2-2 draw in the second leg at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Kick-off on Sunday evening is at 20:00 o'clock.

4. The Griquas welcome the Western Province while the Bulls host the Griffons in the latest Currie Cup round

Round 13 of the Currie Cup will see the Griquas play against the Western Province on Friday afternoon at the Windhoek Draught Park while the Blue Bulls will welcome the Griffons at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

As round 13 of the encounters conclude on Saturday, the Pumas will hope to secure another victory in the 2023 Currie Cup as they play against the Free State Cheetahs at the Mbombela Stadium while the Natal Sharks will look to cement their spot at the summit of the log when they lock horns with the Golden Lions at the Kings Park Stadium.

5. U/20 World Cup gets into the quarter-finals stage

Sunday will see South Korea entertain Nigeria after edging Ecuador 3-2 in the last 16 while Nigeria eliminated host nation Argentina 2-0.

The last quarter-final fixture will see USA battle it out against Uruguay at 23:00
