"We want to acquire the Champions League spot" - Sheppard

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Dillon Sheppard has indicated one of Kaizer Chiefs' target for the remainder of the season is to finish second in the DSTV Premiership table and qualify for the CAF Champions league.

Kaizer Chiefs has had a very inconsistent season so far with 10 wins and 8 losses from 22 matches while 4 matches have ended in a draw.

Despite the inconsistency, Sheppard believes Chiefs can still end the season on a high note by reaching the set target of playing in the CAF Champions League next season.

"The goal is clear, we want to occupy the second spot when the league concludes in May because that will enable us to play in the CAF Champions league, reality is that once you have had a taste of the Champions League you ought to always desire participating in it every season, so that has been our talk and focus as the league concludes," Sheppard said.

The last time Chiefs were involved in the CAF Champions League it was in 2021 when they went all the way to the final only to lose to African giants Al Ahly 3-0 at the Stade Mohammed V Stadium in Morocco and Sheppard couldn't hold himself but to relish the moment.

"Although we lost in the final against Al Ahly in 2021 but reaching a CAF final is something special and important for any team and player, and the experience of that I think it's the only place you want to be."

While Amakhosi have gone 8 years without winning any silverware, they have a chance to end the drought with the on-going Nedbank Cup, the side from Naturena will meet Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars in the last 16 of the competition on Sunday night and Sheppard believes if they can continue with their current form they can go all the way to clinch the competition.

"We want to win the Nedbank Cup to end the trophy drought and most importantly because our fans deserve it and the team also deserves some silverware now, having missed out on the MTN 8 and the league, we have to give our all in the Nedbank Cup," Sheppard added.

With 8 more matches remaining in the league, Amakhosi are currently occupying the 4th spot on 34 points, trailing second place SuperSport United by 5 points.

Immediately after the Nedbank Cup clash with Casric Stars, the Glamour Boys will take on Maritzburg United on the 18th of March before hosting Stellenbosch FC on the 1st of April at the FNB Stadium.
