Inside Miss South Africa: Crown Chasers unveils the journey in a reality series

Miss South Africa breaks new ground with Crown Chasers, an exciting reality series offering a never-before-seen glimpse into the pageant's selection process. Hosted by finalist mentor Zozibini Tunzi, the show features a star-studded judging panel. The live crowning of the next Miss South Africa will air on S3, marking a major return for the channel.
Miss South Africa supporters are in for an exciting treat with the introduction of the reality series Crown Chasers.
The show will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the selection process for the winner of Miss South Africa 2023. The finale, where the crowning will take place, will be aired live on S3 (formerly SABC3).
This marks the first time since 1999 that the pageant finale will be broadcast on the channel.
Crown Chasers, hosted by finalist mentor Zozibini Tunzi, will consist of five episodes airing from Sunday, 9 July.
Throughout the series, viewers will witness the journey of the 12 Miss South Africa finalists as they undertake various challenges, tasks, and mentorship sessions.
The judging panel, consisting of Bonang Matheba, Leandie du Randt, and a weekly celebrity guest judge, including former titleholders and prominent figures in the fashion industry, will provide feedback and guidance to the contestants.
The episode synopses give an overview of the different challenges and themes covered in the series. Episode 1 introduces the finalists and showcases their first challenge, elimination stage, and runway walk.
In Episode 2, the remaining contestants travel to Mauritius, where they create travel vlogs, participate in beach challenges, and have a swimwear photoshoot.
The importance of understanding business is highlighted in Episode 3, as the finalists are introduced to MoFaya energy drinks and tasked with creating their own innovative energy drink can.
Episode 4 focuses on honouring South Africa's diverse heritage, with the finalists engaging in activities related to culture and presenting TED Talks about their heritage.
Finally, in Episode 5, the finalists explore the theme of giving back through a visit to a school and discussions on menstrual health and food security.
The main challenge is the final interview, where the contestants present their CSI (Corporate Social Investment) platforms. The episode concludes with the elimination process, with guest judges evaluating the finalists' performances.
SABC's head of local productions, Lala Tuku, expressed excitement about having Miss South Africa back on their platform and emphasised the significance of the pageant in showcasing the achievements and aspirations of young women.
