Joburg Council: Could Dr Mpho Phalatse make a comeback as mayor?
By Tshegofatso Makola
Could the former mayor of Johannesburg, Dr Mpho Phalatse be making a comeback as the new mayor of the City? Only time will tell, but the Democratic Alliance (DA) seem adamant on reinstating her as the mayor once more.
The vacancy of mayor has officially been declared open, following the
resignation of Al Jama-ah's Thapelo Amad yesterday.
Amad, who took over from Phalatse after a successful motion of no-confidence against her in January this year, was backed by the ANC-led coalition who voted him in.

"Amad fell far short of the requirements for the position".
The DA expressed that it will nominate Dr Mpho Phalatse once again as the mayoral candidate, whilst citing that the ANC/EFF/PA coalition does not have what it describes as a
"compromise candidate" to replace Amad.
"Dr Phalatse has a proven track record and an understanding of the needs of the people of Johannesburg."- Fred Nel, DA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson
The Council is set to meet again next week on 2 May, where a new mayor will be elected.
Could this be a full circle moment for Phalatse and does she have what it takes to lead the city once more?
