Take 2: City of Ekurhuleni looks to resume proceedings of council meeting

By Tshegofatso Makola

Today is set to be quite eventful for the Ekurhuleni City Council. This is as the Council is set to resume what was meant to be their first council meeting.

Following last week’s failed attempt at holding a City Council Meeting, the council for Ekurhuleni is set to meet again today.

The meeting collapsed after councillors failed to agree on whether the votes of no confidence against Speaker of Council, Raymond Dhlamini as well as Council Chief Whip, Kheta Shandu were to be tabled at the beginning of the meeting.

With many caucus breaks being granted and council members not meeting each other half way, the council meeting was adjourned with no item on the agenda being tabled.

Now today will see the council try yet again to have a proceeding with no disruptions and a possible resumption of a motion of no-confidence against Dhlamini.

With Shandu having resigned from the position of Chief Whip yesterday, one will wait in anticipation to see how the council meeting will play out.

Could the alleged coalition between the ANC and EFF see the Speaker survive the motion, or are we yet to witness more surprises and another collapse of this meeting?

This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
