Amakhosi legend believes Castillo has more to offer at the club

Kaizer Chiefs legend William Shongwe is adamant Amakhosi's latest acquisition Edson Castillo still has a lot to offer despite already having a blistering start to the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Castillo, who joined Chiefs from Venezuelan outfit Monagas SC, has impressed so far with his passing, ability to break down opposition attacks and helping Chiefs to retain possession.

He has also scored two goals in his five appearances for the club with his first goal coming in the MTN8 quarter-final against Cape Town City earlier on this month.

The Venezuelan then got his second goal against AmaZulu in an emphatic 3-0 win at home over the past weekend and will also be hoping to keep his momentum heading into the clash against Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday night.

While head coach Molefi Ntseki has also showered Castillo with praises, Shongwe has picked an element of his game that could benefit Amakhosi.

"I am very impressed with Castillo as well and how he has adapted, in the the Cape Town City game they were able to convert him, playing a little bit advanced alongside Mduduzi Mdantsane and they left Yusuf Maart to handle the defensive side of it, it takes brains and football intelligence to know when to go and when to attack the box.

That’s what I saw about him and not only can he break down the opposition’s attack, but he can initiate moves as well, so in my opinion a free box-to-box Castillo can give Chiefs a lot to benefit from," Shongwe said.

Shongwe also added that Castillo is one of the key players that will play a vital role in helping the Soweto giants reclaim their glory days.
