Amakhosi return back to action with a tricky Royal AM test

Following a six weeks break from the DStv Premiership due to the 2023 AFCON, Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs will travel to the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg to take on Royal AM on Sunday the 18th of February 2024.

After managing to pick up 10 points, and keep three clean sheets in their last four matches during the month before the AFCON break, Amakhosi are looking to maintain that form in the final stretch, as they aim for a CAF competition spot at the end of the season.

Currently lying on the 6th spot on the league table with 24 points, Chiefs' interim coach Cavin Johnson has revealed that besides fighting for a top three finish in the league in order to obtain a spot in continental football next season, the club's other objective is to end their nine-year trophy drought.

"I think it's an open discussion that we have had with our supporters and our management, we know that continental football is probably the best playing ground for a brand like Chiefs to be at.

Therefore we would like to get into that space as far as African football is concerned and with the Nedbank Cup at hand, we would also like to do well in the competition and potentially win it," Johnson said.

Johnson has also confirmed that most of his players are battle-ready for Royal AM and keen to kick off 2024 on a positive note with a victory away from home against coach John Maduka’s charges.

The last time the two sides met back in September 2023 at the FNB Stadium, the Glamour Boys and Thwihli Thwahla played out to a 0-0 draw.

Kick-off at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday afternoon is 15:30 pm.
