"Chiefs can beat Sundowns" - Tefu Mashamaite

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite believes the Glamour Boys have what it takes to beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final on Saturday afternoon.

Mashamaite insists the Soweto giants have ammunition to unnerve Rulani Mokwena's charges, despite their current form in the 2023/24 football season.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Mashamaite said he feels like if Chiefs are hungry enough and they want to reclaim their glory days of being the number one team in terms of trophy collection they have to go through obstacles like Sundowns.

“It’s just about the drive on the day, because with cup competitions it's not about what happened in the past, the game will be based more on how one applies themselves and I feel on the day if Kaizer Chiefs can apply themselves well, they can overcome Sundowns, as they have enough ammunition to do so," Mashamaite added.

Both sides head into the encounter at the back of league victories with Chiefs defeating Stellenbosch FC 2-0 while the Brazilians got the better of Polokwane City with the same score margin.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is 15:00 o'clock.
