Joburg City Power has expressed that parts of Johannesburg are experiencing power outages as a result of cable theft at the Nancefield substation in Soweto.

In a statement, the utility mentioned Eldorado Park, Devland, and parts of Lenasia as the regions affected.

The utility further added that its team is still assessing the extent of the damage caused by stolen cable, adding that five cables have been identified as stolen so far, which are affecting Bushkoppies 1 & 2, Olifantsvlei 1 & 2, Nancefield south, Eldos south.

Cable theft has been an ongoing issue over the past few months, with load shedding working as an aid to cable thieves who are able to operate better in such conditions.

The utility further urged residents of the City to report cable theft on 011 490 7900/7911

This is a developing story, more updates to follow.
