City Power to ignore non-paying customers from now on, spokesperson reveals

Residents who are not paying for electricity will no longer be attended to by City Power if they query power outages. This is according to City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, who expressed that the city is struggling with revenue collection.

City Power has taken the hardline against nonpaying consumers of electricity, vowing to not attend to them if they experience power outages.

The power utility has been struggling to keep the grid stable with loadshedding heightening this issue.

According to the utility's spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, City Power will be demanding access to electricity meters to audit them and confirm whether owners are indeed paying for electricity. He further added that failure to pay leads to the utility not being able to maintain its employees.

Mangena expressed that the exclusion of services to those who do not pay is not something new, adding that this is something that should have not happened more often before.

"We shouldn't have responded to the resident and outage calls [of those] who are not supporting the city in ensuring we sustain the service we are providing,” -

Meanwhile, the power crisis continues to plague the country, with many residents experiencing more than eight hours of electricity a day.
