"For me it was too soon" - Patrick Mayo

Following Molefi Ntseki's departure at Kaizer Chiefs on Monday the 23rd of October 2023, Amakhosi legend Patrick Mayo believes the sacking of Ntseki came too soon.

Chiefs' decision to part ways with Ntseki comes after the club was knocked out of the Carling Knockout Cup by AmaZulu on Saturday in the Last 16 at FNB Stadium.

Reacting to the decision, Mayo believes it was not a fair decision by the club and reiterates that it was too soon.

“They should have at least given him a chance because they didn’t give him enough of a chance, four months in charge is not enough for me, they should have given him a fair chance but Chiefs is a big club and they need results," Mayo said.

Mayo also insists that the culture at the club has shifted and they are no longer as patient as they used to be with coaches.

While the Glamour Boys announced Ntseki's departure, they immediately also announced that Cavin Johnson will take over as the interim coach of the first team.

Assistant coach Arthur Zwane has been demoted back to the club’s youth structures while Dillon Sheppard retains his position as the assistant coach.

Johnson’s first match will be away to Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership on Saturday the 28th of October 2023.
