Get to know the Spar Proteas Players: Khanyisa Chawane

With only a couple of hours to go before the 2023 Netball World Cup commences at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town; South Africa, Spar Proteas' versatile Khanyisa Chawane believes the Spar Proteas' ability to stick together no matter what might be the decisive factor in influencing the team's advancement in the World Cup.

The three time Telkom Netball League winner can play both at the centre or on the wing defence in the South African squad.

With a vast experience of having played overseas in the United Kingdom for Bath in the European Super League before returning home, the Tzaneen native, had a stellar season with the Free State Crinums in the domestic Telkom Netball League this season, ending the 2023 edition as the Player of the Tournament as she helped them get to the final of the TNL and walking away with a silver medal, a feat that bodes well for Coach Norma Plummer and her team.

The 27-year-old who was born on the 14th of January 1996, made her senior debut against Australia in 2018.

Currently residing in Bloemfontein; Free State, Chawane has 68 caps for the national side ahead of the 2023 Netball World Cup.

Being part of the World Cup team in 2019 in Liverpool, which was her gateway to being recognised and scouted to play in the international league and also, being named Player of the Tournament in every tournament she played in 2018, will always go down as Chawane's proudest achievements in her netball career.

The Spar Proteas will firstly play against Wales on the 28th of July before facing Sri Lanka and Jamaica on the 29th and 30th of July respectively.

The 16-team global spectacle will take place on African soil for the first time since the competition was established in 1963 and it kicks off on the 28th of July until the 6th of August 2023.
