"He has authority and confidence on the ball" - Molefi Ntseki

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has expressed his delight at Amakhosi's latest signing Edson Castillo's work rate since he arrived at Naturena during the transfer window.

Castillo has started and played every single match for Chiefs since the commencement of the 2023/24 PSL season, becoming one of the few players with a 100% record of starting and ending matches for Chiefs this season.

The Venezuelan international's most recent achievement was to guide Amakhosi to the 2023 MTN 8 semi-final scoring the side's winning goal against Cape Town City at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was his first goal for Chiefs since he joined the Soweto giants and already there has been some positive feedback from the public and Ntseki over the 29-year-old’s performance.

"We had scouts going to Venezuela to watch him play, and we saw a player that we need in the club, we needed someone with authority and confidence on the ball, someone with a little bit of intelligence, and I think he is bringing that to the team.

By the way, he has only played three matches in South Africa, and there is still more to come out of him because he appears to be a very intelligent midfielder and in terms of his pace, he still needs to adjust to the weather conditions in South Africa and also understand the type of opponent we play against," Ntseki said.

While Castillo has been paired with Yusuf Maart in the middle of the park for the Glamour Boys, Ntseki also believes there are still some aspects of the game that Castillo still needs to adjust to.

"The type of players that we always play around him as well contribute a lot to his growth and overall in terms of the tactical cohesion and understanding, we still have a long way to go to be a solid team tactically," Ntseki added.

The Glamour Boys will now turn their attention to the DStv Premiership as they face TS Galaxy on Sunday the 20th of August 2023 at the Mbombela Stadium.
