History favours the Spar Proteas ahead of World Cup opener against Wales

Ahead of their 2023 Netball World Cup opening match against Wales on Friday evening, the Spar Proteas have won all their matches against Wales in the past 19 meetings between the two teams.

Ranked 5th in the world, the Spar Proteas will face the Welsh side that is currently occupying the 9th spot in the world at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town; South Africa.

With the teams having played 19 times before, the last meeting between the two sides was in 2022 when the Spar Proteas won 69-51 in Birmingham; England.

The average score between the two sides is South Africa 60-40 Wales while South Africa's best World Cup performance was in 1995 when they finished second while the Welsh had a better World Cup in 2015 when they finished 7th.

With the opening ceremony for the World Cup being at 16:00 on Friday afternoon, the match between the Spar Proteas and Wales will commence at 18:00.
