University of Johannesburg to Bestow Honorary Doctorate upon Coach Pitso Mosimane

Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has expressed his appreciation for the University of Johannesburg's decision to honour his contributions to football and society with an Honorary Doctorate.

According to the UJAC (University of Johannesburg Awards Committee) Charter, an honorary doctorate is granted to individuals who have made exceptional and innovative contributions, showcasing leadership qualities beyond the ordinary in their field.

In a statement released on Monday, March 25, 2024, the University praised Mosimane's achievements as a testament to his outstanding leadership, strategic prowess, and ability to motivate teams to excel.

The University of Johannesburg specifically highlighted Mosimane's successes as both a player and a coach, as well as his dedication to mentoring young talents and promoting grassroots development, as the driving factors behind this prestigious recognition.

In response to the honor, Mosimane expressed his gratitude to UJ for acknowledging his career in such a meaningful way.

"I am deeply thankful to the University of Johannesburg for choosing to celebrate my career in this manner. Being recognized with an Honorary Doctorate is a truly humbling experience, especially as a football coach. I have achieved many accolades in my career, but this is an unexpected and cherished honour," said Mosimane.

The former Al Ahly head coach also credited his success to the collective efforts of players, coaches, football administrators, media, supporters, and the public from South Africa, the African continent, and the Gulf region.

The awards ceremony will take place at the University of Johannesburg on Thursday 25 July 2024 at 16:30 pm.
