Kaizer Chiefs' teenage sensation Mfundo Vilakazi has expressed his delight at making his senior debut for the Glamour Boys in their 5-4 defeat to Milford FC in the Nedbank Cup last 32 last weekend.

This follows Vilakazi coming on as a substitute in the second half of the encounter against Milford much to the delight of the Chiefs' faithful as fans rose to their feet at the FNB Stadium.

While Chiefs' interim coach Cavin Johnson praised Vilakazi and conceded that the did fairly well, Vilakazi has stated that he was very excited and happy to make his professional debut in the gold and black colours of the Soweto giants.

"I was very excited and happy to make my debut, personally I think I did okay for my first game because I didn’t give the ball away too much, but we are all disappointed with the result.

I am really grateful to be at a club like Kaizer Chiefs because I am learning every day, there are many senior players who teach me how to conduct myself as a Kaizer Chiefs player, both on and off the field and they give me advice to help me become a better player and keep on improving," Vilakazi said.

Vilakazi who has now joined a growing list of Amakhosi academy graduates who have made their senior team debuts in the past 18 months, following in the footsteps of Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, and Samkelo Zwane, has also revealed that his family and friends were also excited and proud of him after making his senior debut.

"My friends and family are very happy for me and it really motivates me to see them proud of me," the teenager added.

Vilakazi will hope to make his second appearance at the FNB Stadium when the Soweto giants face Moroka Swallows on Saturday night, kick-off in that encounter is 17:45.
