"I needed the AFCON break to finally settle in at Chiefs" - Sibongiseni Mthethwa

Following a rather disappointing start since joining Kaizer Chiefs, midfield maestro Sibongiseni Mthethwa believes the AFCON break has helped him to finally settle in at the club and understand the football culture of the Soweto giants.

Mthethwa joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC in September 2023 following his impressive form at the Winelands club but is yet to replicate that with the Soweto giants.

While the Soweto giants have been on camp as preparation for the resumption of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season in February 2024, Mthethwa has used the camp to get to know his teammates better and understand how things are done at Chiefs.

"This break helped me to get to know how things are done here and to know the players better because I didn’t have a pre-season with them.

We have had some time to bond as a team in order to gel properly as we seek to improve our performance in the second half of the league," Mthethwa said.

With the pressure that comes when playing for Amakhosi, the 29-year-old alluded that he is handling that well and will not allow it to disrupt his progress.

"I have made progress and I am satisfied with how things have been going, of course there is pressure here and at other teams, but it won’t be the same because the team still has a problem of winning trophies.

Although we are faced with that challenge of struggling to win trophies, we are working very hard to fix that and we want to reassure our fans that we will continue where we left off last year in terms of winning games," Mthethwa added.

Before the AFCON break, the Glamour Boys won 3 matches out of 4 and only drew one in the process.

They next face TS Galaxy when the league resumes on the 13th of February at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, kick-off in that encounter is 19:30 pm.
