"I would urge them to work hard and make South Africa proud" - Priscilla Masisi

2023 Netball World Cup tournament director Priscilla Masisi has urged the Spar Proteas to work hard and make South Africa proud as they prepare to take on Wales in their first pool C match on Friday evening.

The Spar Proteas will look to make the most of their home ground advantage as the global showpiece is being hosted in South Africa for the very first time since its inception in 1963.

Having finished fourth in the previous World Cup, the Spar Proteas are aiming for a podium finish in the 2023 edition of the showpiece and Masisi believes that can only be attained through hard work.

"I would encourage them to work hard just as Banyana Banyana did in the Women's African Cup of Nations last year and I believe with the support of the South Africans they will also be encouraged and make South Africa proud,"
Masisi said.

While directing a World Cup tournament requires time, dedication and commitment, Masisi has enjoyed every single second of the preparations since it was announced that South Africa will be the hosting nation.

"Well I was appointed last year and I only joined the organising committee around May and I can say it has been exciting however, in the beginning we had a challenge with the venue as the CTICC is just an empty hall that we had to turn into an arena from scratch and we prevailed," Masisi added.

While the World Cup has already began with New Zealand defeating Trinidad & Tobago 76-27 in the opening match and Tonga narrowly beating Fiji 56-51, Masisi conceded that tickets can be purchased online by visiting the 2023 Netball World Cup website ( nwc2023.org.za ).

As the host nation, South Africa’s intentions of seriously competing for the coveted champions trophy have been clear from the moment it was announced that Africa would host the Netball World Cup for the first time.

The Spar Proteas will firstly be playing against Wales on the 28th of July before facing Sri Lanka and Jamaica on the 29th and 30th of July respectively.
