President Cyril Ramaphosa to appear before National Assembly for an Oral Question-and-Answer session

President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to appear before the National Assembly (NA) on Tuesday the 19th of March 2024 at 14:00 for an oral question-and-answer session with Members of the House.

Among others, the President is expected to answer questions on government’s plans to maintain growth andcreate jobs in the agricultural sector through land reform.

He is also set to provide an update on lifestyle audits for all public representatives and if there are any plans to intensify the Presidential Employment Stimulus that has created about 1.2 million job opportunities since its implementation.

Before the question-and-answer session, members will have a debate on Human Rights Day.

The debate is scheduled to start at 09:00 am in the NA, meanwhile, the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will consider reports of the Joint Standing Committee on the Financial Management of Parliament, the National Council on Gender-based Violence Bill, and the Expropriation Bill during its sitting at 14:00.

The National Council on Gender-based-Violence Bill seeks to, among others, establish the National Council on Gender-based Violence and Femicide. It further provides for the objects and functions of the council, theappointment of the board of the council and its membersand it determines the board’s term.

The Expropriation Bill seeks to repeal the existing Expropriation Act of 1975 to provide a common framework in line with the Constitution to guide the processes and procedures for the expropriation of property by organs of state.

It further seeks to provide for certain instances where expropriation with no compensation may be appropriate in the public interest.
